The book she wished she had.
A gentle, first-aid companion for parents in the earliest and hardest days after the death of a child — written by our founder Detola Amure, in memory of her son Morakinyo Caleb.
The Book
A companion, not a cure.
Carried Through Loss is not a manual for “fixing” grief — because grief is not something to fix. It is a compassionate hand held out to parents in the moments when everything feels unbearable and nothing feels right.
- The emotional weight — and how to hold it
- The physical toll of grief on your body
- Marriages, siblings, and the family after loss
- Faith, doubt and spiritual companionship
- Practical first steps in the earliest days
Why I wrote this book
Carried Through Loss was written by Detola Amure, founder of My Little Warrior Child CIC.
Detola lost her son, Morakinyo Caleb, two days before Christmas in 2018. In the early days after his death, she searched for a practical and compassionate guide to help her make sense of what she was feeling, but struggled to find the kind of resource she needed.
This book is the resource she wished she had then.
Her own journey through grief led her to become a certified Grief Specialist and to create My Little Warrior Child CIC in remembrance of Morakinyo, to support other parents and families after child loss.

What others are saying
Carried Through Loss is a compassionate companion for bereaved parents in their earliest days of grief. Detola writes with profound empathy and clarity, offering guidance that gently steadies the heart when words and direction are hard to find. I look forward to including this book in our care packages bringing comfort, understanding, and hope to those facing the unimaginable.
As one of the many forgotten parents, I’ve spent a quarter of my life voluntarily helping others navigate this journey through child loss. The one thing missing until now is a written explanation of what to expect at any time and in any order. If there were a manual for the healing process following the loss of a child this would be it. The explanations of isolation and confusion make things a little bit clearer. A must read for angel parents and for anyone supporting a family facing loss.
Having worked with many people who are grieving, nothing prepares you for the devastating loss of a child, no matter what the circumstances. Very few have the right words. There is very little out there in terms of support that is actually helpful when parents and families are in the immediate aftermath of a child dying. Detola fills this gap with Carried Through Loss. It is like a gentle, warm hug that helps you start to make sense of what is going on in one of life’s cruelest moments.
Carried Through Loss is a compassionate, easy-to-follow guide that supports parents navigating the loss of a child. Its clear structure and thoughtful “Gentle Pause” reflections encourage emotional check-ins and help readers honour their own grief. Drawing from lived and professional experience, this book offers both comfort and practical guidance. It is a valuable resource I would confidently recommend in supporting families through loss. Thank you, Detola, for helping parents feel seen, supported, and less alone in their grief.
I have trained over 900 people to help others move beyond grief and loss and Detola is someone who stood out from the moment I met her. This book will be invaluable for anyone who is suffering the loss of a child or who knows someone who is and wants to support them in the best way possible.
